The symphony of the cantons at the Comptoir Suisse 2013
The Canton of Basel-Stadt joined forces with the Cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Jura to orchestrate a symphony of cantons under the motto “It’s the (can)tone that makes the music” at the Comptoir Suisse trade fair in Lausanne, which took place from 13 to 22 September 2013. For the duration of the trade fair, the three cantons presented a special exhibit highlighting the strengths and attractions of the tourist region of North-Western Switzerland.
Over 150,000 visitors flocked to the trade fair. The Canton of Basel-Stadt held overall responsibility for the three cantons’ trade fair appearance. The cost of CHF 700,000 was financed through Swisslos Funds, with the Cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft providing CHF 280,000 each and the Canton of Jura CHF 140,000.
Consumer fair with a long tradition
The three North-Western cantons were invited to present their joint exhibit by MCH Beaulieu Lausanne with the declared aim of developing and boosting economic and cultural relations between Switzerland and the host region. The Comptoir Suisse consumer fair, which has been running since 1919, currently boasts around 500 exhibitors from the business, industry, trades and agricultural sectors.
The appearance at the Comptoir Suisse fair is the second occasion on which the Cantons of Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft and Jura have jointly exhibited at a Swiss consumer fair. Under the motto “Der Nordwesten. Die offene Schweiz” (The North-West - the Open Switzerland) they previously presented themselves together at Olma 2010 in St. Gallen.
