Seoul

Seoul is the political, economic and cultural centre of South Korea, and the majority of Korean universities are also located in this several million-strong metropolis. This offers interesting points of contact for Basel as a location rich in economic, research and innovation. The result is a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation in the areas of life sciences and the promotion of start-ups, urban development, architecture, art and design as well as peaceful coexistence.

The former President of the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, Beat Jans, and the Mayor of Seoul, Oh Se-hoon, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the city cooperation between Basel and Seoul in the capital city of South Korea at the end of September 2022. The goal of the cooperation is to offer participating actors from Basel optimum support during their activities and cooperations, and to ensure good framework conditions and access at the political level.  

Memorandum of Understanding

The Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation between Basel and Seoul was signed on 29 September 2022 during a meeting between the former President of the Government of Basel-Stadt, Beat Jans, and the Mayor of Seoul, Oh Se-hoon. The agreement, which covers a wide range of content, aims to support and strengthen initiatives and cooperations in the topic areas of life sciences, innovation, climate, research and development, business, culture, tourism and education.
